Face Implants (Cheek & Chin)
Many patients who lack pleasing bone structure in the cheek and chin regions of their face can achieve a very reasonable correction with semi-permanent fillers (i.e. Radiesse®). But some people need more help. In these select individuals, Dr. Cowan may recommend a facial implant. Facial implants are either solid silicone or high molecular weight polyethylene structures sculpted in various ways to improve the projection of underdeveloped facial bones.
Do I need facial implants?
- My cheeks look flat, making my eyes prominent and my face flat.
- My chin looks small and weak, giving the impression that my other facial features (i.e. nose) are abnormally large.
Expected Outcome
- Improved cheekbone or chin definition and projection harmonizing with your facial shape. This reshaping procedure often has lifelong correction
PROCEDURE & RECOVERY
Procedure
Through incisions that are hidden in the lower eyelid creases, under the chin, or within the mouth (making them virtually undetectable), implants are placed into uniquely shaped and positioned pockets overlying the facial bones to give added definition to the face. In some cases, small titanium facial screws are used to anchor the implants when implant movement may be more likely.
